In the past, Los Cristianos was a small fishing village. This village later became a high demand tourist location. A vast beach goes along the downtown area up to the port where many fishing boats today drop anchor.

Main tourist area of the North of the island, Puerto de la Cruz is situated on the coast near the valley of Orotava, at the foot of Teide. It is one of the islands favourite places for meeting and diversion. Modern infrastructure cohabits with the typical hidden recesses of local culture found in the fishermen's port that existed before tourism.
